In medieval Europe the Kettle Hat or Kettle Helmet was common all over. It was often called “Eisenhut” in German Chapel de Fer in French (means iron hat). It was mainly worn by infantry troops. It has a wide brim that gave a great protection against attack from above such as saber and others. There were other variations of kettle helmets, and this rounded one had rivets which provided additional support from incoming hits.
