Medieval Wooden Armor Shield.

The shield named “Scutum” was the main body protection shield of the Roman soldiers. It was used to prevent the targeted rapiers, arrows, aimed at the soldiers. Its also provided safety from hand held arms. The big size of shield permitted the soldiers to form a protection or a wall of shield that could defend them during the battle.

The model displayed here is a Roman Scutum (wooden) wooden cut down model scutum shield, this shield was definitely in use at the time of Augustus.
