The Norman Nasal Helmet is a type of conical helmet that is constructed by overlapping metal straps or "spangen" riveted to dished metal plates to form a skull cap. These are made by using a definite process called "Standard South Tower spinning process". These helmets can be dated back to the 6th century and were used as late as the 15th century. The helmets gets their name from their solid "nasal" and reinforced "eyebrows" pattern, which is borrowed from 11th-13th century style.

The Normans not only conquered England and Sicily, they fought all through the Mediterranean lands and in the Crusades. This conical Norman helmet has been called "Norman Nasal Helmet " because it was popular with them and also well-illustrated in the Bayeux Tapestry depiction of the Norman Conquest of England. This Norman helmet provided a glancing surface to blows and was light, airy and comfortable - important features for warriors wearing them for days on end.
